This methodology explains how Excel Capital Management researches and presents business-funding products, provider programs, rates, fees, qualification requirements, and comparisons.
Sources we use
We prioritize primary and directly verifiable sources whenever they are available. Depending on the subject, our research may include:
- Provider program guides, term sheets, agreements, application materials, and official product pages.
- Direct confirmation from authorized provider representatives.
- Government agencies and regulators, including the SBA, IRS, Federal Reserve, CFPB, FTC, and state authorities.
- Offers, underwriting requirements, and operational information encountered through Excel’s ordinary brokerage work, when that information can be used lawfully and without exposing confidential customer data.
- Reputable industry research used as secondary context.
What we evaluate
Eligibility and accessibility
Time in business, revenue, credit profile, industry limits, geography, required documents, collateral, and personal-guarantee requirements.
Cost and transparency
APR when available, interest or factor rates, monthly rates, origination and underwriting fees, draw fees, closing costs, prepayment terms, and other material charges.
Repayment structure
Term length, payment frequency, amortization, revolving versus nonrevolving structure, renewal mechanics, and how the payment schedule may affect cash flow.
Speed and process
Application steps, documentation burden, underwriting process, expected decision time, closing requirements, and funding speed.
Flexibility and use cases
Permitted uses, line access, redraws, early payoff, seasonal needs, working capital, equipment, inventory, expansion, and refinancing considerations.
Provider support and reliability
Communication, servicing, transparency of terms, complaint patterns when reliably documented, and the provider’s ability to explain material conditions.
Rates, fees, and examples
Business-financing pricing can change quickly and may vary by applicant. We distinguish published program ranges from illustrative examples and from terms observed in actual offers. When a provider quotes a factor rate or monthly rate, we do not present it as an APR unless the conversion is supportable and the assumptions are explained.
Calculators and payment examples disclose the assumptions used. They are educational estimates and do not replace a provider’s final disclosures or financing agreement.
Comparisons and rankings
A comparison is intended to help readers understand material differences, not to declare one product universally best. The best fit depends on the business’s cost tolerance, cash flow, credit profile, time horizon, and use of proceeds.
Excel does not currently apply a universal numerical score to every funding provider. If we introduce ratings or rankings, the page will identify the criteria, weighting, data date, commercial relationships, and limitations of the scoring system.
Verification and updates
High-traffic, time-sensitive, and government-form pages are reviewed on a recurring basis and may be updated sooner when a material change is identified. A last-updated date should reflect a substantive review or revision, not a cosmetic edit.
When information cannot be independently confirmed, we qualify the statement, identify the source, or omit the claim. Readers can report a possible error through our corrections and reader feedback policy.
